Watercolor studies focusing on a spectrum of tulip petal colors. Tulip coloration is as mysterious as it is beautiful to me. Tulips are unique in that their colors are not static; they can shift slightly as the flower grows and matures. This phenomenon occurs due to changes in pigment concentration and even external factors. The brilliant shades of tulips arise from a fascinating interaction of pigments, like anthocyanins and flavonoids. The paintings’ compositions explore these natural pigments which work much like an artist's palette, blending hues and tones to paint the petals. Each series consists of six studies to represent the six sleek petals, six sepals, and six prominent stamens.
